Discussion

Posted in Uncategorized on February 19, 2009 by a2pfive

We couldn’t get into our studio so we had a meeting in the Information Common discussing the form and the outcome of the design instead.

We were thinking of making one of the object in white concrete so white cement is something we consider. It’s told that white cement is just like the other cement but using a higher temperature when manufacturing it. The problem is, it might not worth putting huge money in just getting a white cement, in comparison. We decided to make five objects, 2 podiums. They are fundamentally different and gradually change in connection. Not need to be structural difficult, it could be simple. The  challenge is making them perfectly and work out how to make them easy to be carried around.

Design Competition

Posted in Uncategorized on February 19, 2009 by a2pfive

We had a design competition, which we presented our concept and design to the whole year, on 17 February. It’s so difficult to decide and we were just lost in the competition with group D2 but it was fun. Emma and Adam had a great debate on stage. We were told to combine our ideas.

Richard has a good idea – a pair of debate podium!

014

To make it lighter and easier to carry arround, polystyrene blocks with chicken wire are decided to be used and podium will be divided into a few parts.

016

During a spontaneous tutorial, it’s suggested that we can have a horrow ring at the podium bottom instead of another block of concrete because it will include more engineering problems to be solved.

We played around at mixing concrete with different aggregates and reinforcement

Wire wool + glass

013

Using holly’s tight to mold the shape. Polystyrene as aggregate, wire reinforement.

Jeet has successfully made a sample of smooth shiny surface of concrete. Using plastic mold, high proportion of cement, bubbles were out, little aggragate.
